In an effort to boost the discharge of their duties and ensure speedy services, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company has donated modern equipment to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).

This is coming just as the command confirmed and decried the spate of duplicate records from most applicants for the new machine readable passport also known as e-passport.
Receiving the equipment at the conference centre of the Lagos Command Headquarters, the Comptroller, Mr. Ayotunde Oredipe, appreciated the assistance from the company stating that the modern working tools will help the command in discharging its activities better and faster.

According to him,” We are quite happy about this gesture because it will enable us improve our output and you will see a lot of improvement in what we are doing and be rest assured that we will continue to partner with Shell for improvement and development.”

Also speaking at the occasion, Mr. Michael Akana of Shell said that the company was well are of the improvements that had taken place at immigrations in recent times and stated that the NIS was doing well to make its programmes work.

According to him, “It is imperative that we move with the world, it makes things easier. Shell management, in recognition of the extent of development and effort had presented this in support of the initiative.”

Shell donated 10desktop computers, 1 all in one printer consisting a fax, scanner and photocopier and 10UPS and surge protectors to NIS to further improve their operations.

Meanwhile, the command has called on applicants to be very careful in the application and acquisition of the new passport stating that double entries will only disqualify the applicant from getting the passport.

According to Oredipe, who blamed some dubious applicants for the double entries, “the situation is changing faster now because they can no longer get more than one passport as a person cannot have more than one set of fingerprints. Gone are those days that a person will possess more than five passports.”

He called on law abiding members of the public not to try and acquire the passport more than once as it would help the service to do a better job and protect the image of the country abroad. and its sister websites,,,,, and are all owned by John Donovan. There is also a Wikipedia article.
