Actor and environmentalist Robert Redford will introduce his new documentary, Fighting Goliath: Texas Coal Wars, at 7:30 p.m. March 27 at the Wortham Theater Center.

Redford also will participate in a panel discussion following the 30-minute film, which is being presented by the Progressive Forum.

Panelists include Houston Mayor Bill White, former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, attorney Steve Susman and other Texans who appear in the movie, as well as Mat Hames, the film’s director and John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil Co.

Fighting Goliath follows the efforts of the Texas Cities for Clean Air Coalition, which was formed in 2006 to oppose 18 new coal-burning power plants in the state. TXU Corp. withdrew eight of the 11 permit applications shortly before the case went to court, when it was announced that shareholders would sell the utility to private equity firms.

The film was first screened last year at a mayor’s conference sponsored by the Redford Center at the Sundance Preserve.

Tickets start at $14 and include a DVD of the film. They are available at 832-251-0706 or www.progressiveforumhouston.org.
