Royal Dutch Shell has announced the appointment of Bruce Levell to the position of Chief Scientist Geology. The appointment reflects Shell’s continued commitment to technology innovation and deployment and the development of technical skills within the company.

Effective today, Bruce’s appointment brings the total number of Chief Scientists in Shell to eight.

“As the world demand for energy increases, so does the focus on exploration and new development opportunities. The appointment of a Chief Scientist in Geology reflects our intention to continue our record of successful exploration discoveries and their effective development,” Shell’s Chief Technology Officer, Jan van der Eijk, said of the appointment.

“With his 29 years of experience, Bruce will play a pivotal role in helping Shell find and develop new hydrocarbons in some of the deepest and most challenging reservoirs of the world,” added Matthias Bichsel, Executive Vice President Technical for Shell Exploration and Production

Bruce holds a Ph.D. in Geology from Oxford University, and is actively involved in professional societies, such as the Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He regularly speaks at industry conferences and serves on the editorial board of  Petroleum Geoscience.

– Charlie Williams – Shell Chief Scientist Well Engineering and Production Technology;

– Willem Schulte – Shell Chief Scientist Reservoir Engineering
