Bloomberg: Shell Shuts Tennessee Oil Pipeline on Leak, State Gazette Says
By Bill Murray
April 12 (Bloomberg) — Royal Dutch Shell Plc has shut a 40-inch diameter pipeline that moves crude from the company’s offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico to its terminus near St. Louis, Missouri after a leak was found near the town of Dyersburg, Tennessee, the State Gazette newspaper said.
About 10 gallons of leaked oil were discovered yesterday on the north side of State Highway 104 following a routine inspection, the newspaper said, citing Shell spokesman Gary Stovall. Shell shuttered the pipeline on safety concerns, the newspaper said.
The pipeline, which is buried five feet below the surface, was laid in 1963 and was the largest diameter pipeline in the U.S. until construction of the 48-inch Alaska pipeline in the 1970s, the newspaper said.
