LONDON, May 2 (Reuters) – About 50 people briefly blocked access to Royal Dutch Shell’s 245,000 barrel per day Stanlow refinery in Wales on Thursday night in protest against high fuel prices, the company said.

“The group temporarily blocked access to Oil Sites Road and caused Shell to delay the movement of fuel by road,” Shell (RDSa.L: QuoteProfileResearch) said in a press release.

Shell said the protest began about 8:30 pm local time and normal road movements were quickly resumed, with the protesters leaving by midnight.

Britain has the second highest diesel price in Europe, according to the AA automobile club, with a national average of 117.4 pence ($3.91) per litre in April 2008, and with the Welsh part of the United Kingdom paying the most at 118.3 pence. (Reporting by Janet McGurty; editing by James Jukwey)
