Rupert Murdoch caused quite a stir when he showed up at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2007 after several years of snubbing the alpine talking shop for bigwigs.

Since then, he seems to have embraced the shindig. He even played waiter at the last meeting in January, alongside the Google founders and rock star Bono, serving wine at a dinner for wives and female executives. For next year’s jamboree, he will be one of the event’s co-chairs.

Together with other co-chairs – Stephen Green , HSBC chairman, Shell chief Jeroen van der Veer , Bayer chairman Werner Wenning , Maria Ramos , chief executive of South Africa’s Transnet, and Yang Yuanqing , chairman of Lenovo – Mr Murdoch will be helping decide the themes of the event. The collapse of his Russian billboard business sale due to market madness, and News Corp stock falling below $10 notwithstanding, the financial crisis will be on top of the agenda.
