Shell Qatar wins award for safety *(Shell gives itself an award)

?SHELL Qatar has won the ‘Shell CEO Award’ for its ‘outstanding performance’ on safety at its three projects in the country.

?Shell Qatar is involved in the multi-billion dollar Pearl GTL project and Qatargas 3 and Qatargas 4 LNG projects.

?Shell Qatar chairman Andrew Brown said, “Safety is a key priority for us. If we can’t be safe, we don’t operate. Every day our concern is the safety of the 35,000 people working at our Pearl GTL work site.”

?He said Shell Qatar was offering some world class safety training programmes for which a training facility had been built at the Pearl Village.

?“Our training facility can deliver some 2,700 courses every single day to our workers and supervisors. Leadership training programmes that last nine days are being offered to some 5,000 supervisors at the Pearl GTL site. It is a groundbreaking approach to think about safety,” Brown said.

?Meanwhile, the three-day Middle East Health, Safety, Security and Environment Conference (MEHSSE) got underway at the Four Seasons yesterday.  Some 500 delegates from all over the world are attending the conference being held under the patronage of HE the Deputy Premier, Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah.

?The conference has been sponsored by Boots and Coots, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Maersk, Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, Shell, Statoil Hydro and Total. 

?Major energy companies such as B-Safe Corporation, Cabot Specialty Fluids, Enterprise Development Network, ESS, ExxonMobil and QP are participating in the exhibition being held on the sidelines of MEHSSE.

?QP director (HSE Regulations & Enforcement) Saif al-Naimi said, “Hosting MEHSSE signifies the importance that Middle East has placed on health, safety, security and environment in the last two years. We are confident the event will help highlight major concerns we have had in the past and address them.”

?Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) managing director (Middle East, North Africa and India) Waleed Refeay, SPE Middle East regional director Ali H.al-Hasan, SPE (Qatar) chairman Sheikh Faisal al-Thani, Alistair Hope (Shell Gas & Power), Brett Doherty (RasGas) and Philippe Guys (Total) were among those who spoke yesterday.
