Last update: 2:57 p.m. EST Nov. 18, 2008
HOUSTON, Nov 18, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ — The Salvation Army, one of the largest charitable organizations in the United States, and three major oil brands – Pennzoil(R), Quaker State(R) and Shell Rotella(R) T – are providing consumers an opportunity to help raise important funds for the charity through the “Change is Good, Giving is Better” promotion.
The promotion began this weekend with $100,000 for The Salvation Army as the first step toward a goal of raising up to the maximum of $300,000. Consumers who purchase or have their oil changed using one of these brands’ conventional motor oils can help The Salvation Army’s good works. With each valid redemption, The Salvation Army gets $1 and consumers receive a $6 rebate for themselves.
“We are proud to initiate this fund-raising effort to help The Salvation Army continue its important works during these challenging economic times,” said Luis Guimaraes, Shell Lubricants general manager, North American Marketing. “By offering consumers a cash rebate on their next motor oil purchase or oil change, consumers can help raise much-needed funds for The Salvation Army during this holiday season.”
Consumers qualify for the rebate by mail with the purchase of a Pennzoil(R), Quaker State(R) or Shell Rotella(R) T conventional motor oil change or a purchase of 5 quarts of Pennzoil(R), Quaker State(R) or 2 gallons of Shell Rotella(R) T conventional motor oil. The offer is valid from Nov. 15, 2008 until a maximum of $300,000 is raised for The Salvation Army or Dec. 31, 2008, whichever comes first. The promotion runs in every state except Rhode Island.

“The Salvation Army is excited to team up with these three motor oil brands to benefit the many people who need our help in these difficult times,” said Major George Hood, national community relations secretary of The Salvation Army. “Because many of our donors are facing tough times themselves, more people need our help. This promotion allows consumers to make a donation while doing something they need to do anyway — change their oil.”
