LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) – A private security official says gunmen commandeered a Nigerian naval vessel and killed one sailor during an attack an oil facility in Africa’s biggest oil producer.

The official said about 18 boatloads of fighters hit the facility run by Royal Dutch Shell’s local joint venture early Monday in Nigeria’s southern Bayelsa state. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to prohibitions on dealings with the media.

Shell officials and Nigerian authorities weren’t immediately available for comment.
