HAMBURG, June 12 (Reuters) – Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) is launching heating oil with a 10 percent biofuel blend content in Germany, it said on Friday.

Germany compels biofuel blending in vehicle fuels but not in heating oil.

Shell was starting the blending with heating oil voluntarily after positive trials with consumers, a spokesman for the company’s German unit Shell Deutschland Oil said.

The blending component will be largely based on rapeseed oil and sunflower oil, she said.

She declined to say how many tonnes the company aimed to sell annually.

It had been developed by Shell’s laboratory in Hamburg. (Reporting by Michael Hogan; Editing by James Jukwey)
