WASHINGTON – Shell Oil Co., the U.S. arm of Europe’s largest oil company, spent $800,000 to lobby the federal government in the second quarter, according to a recent disclosure report.

The tally matched spending for the first quarter, but was nearly 36 percent higher than a year ago.

The company lobbied on the pending climate-change bill that’s expected to significantly increase operating costs for oil producers and refiners.

Shell, whose parent is Royal Dutch Shell PLC, also lobbied on regulatory issues related to drilling permits in Alaska, health care measures and the Alien Tort Statute as it pertains to the enforcement of foreign judgments in the U.S, according to the form filed July 20 with the House clerk’s office.

Besides Congress, Shell lobbied the departments of Energy, Interior and Commerce in the April-June period, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and Coast Guard, among others.
