Shell appoints new Russia and Caspian chief

Moscow, September 1 (Interfax) – Shell has replaced the head of its Russia office, Chris Finlayson, with Charles Watson, former managing director at Shell Energy Europe, effective September 1, the company said.

Watson will also chair the board of directors at Sakhalin Energy.  Finlayson will take up office as executive vice president of Shell Global Solutions Upstream after a four year stint as executive vice president for Russia and the Caspian region.

Watson’s remit will include Shell’s operations in strategic regions. The position used to cover operations in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, but Ukraine was added in the summer.

Watson had served at Shell Energy Europe, which oversees gas production and renewable energy in Europe, Russia and Central Asia, since November 2007.
