Shell Approves A$50 Billion Gorgon LNG Project, Australian Says

By Madelene Pearson

Sept. 14 (Bloomberg) — Australia’s biggest energy project, the A$50 billion ($43.2 billion) Gorgon liquefied natural gas development, will be unveiled today after joint venture partner Royal Dutch Shell Plc gave the go-ahead at a meeting on Friday, the Australian newspaper said.

With Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp., the venture’s other partners, having signed off and environmental approval already granted, the Shell approval paves the way for the project to begin, the newspaper said, without citing anyone. The field was first discovered in 1981, it said.

The parties will announce the final investment decision at a Perth briefing, attended by West Australian Premier Colin Barnett, federal government representatives and Chevron’s global exploration and production head, George Kirkland, the newspaper reported.
