Mega Merger: Shell would love to get hold of BP’s hydrocarbon reserves

Posting By Wilt Staph

“BP’s name is now so politically compromised that only the bravest company would want to take them over,” James Batty, Editor of Energy Intelligence Finance, an oil industry newsletter, said.

Complete and utter nonsense! Any takeover would acquire tangible assets which are of huge value. There would be no need to perpetuate the BP brand name at all if the acquirer didn’t want to do this. Shell is certainly looking at making a bid with their eyes firmly on the upstream. If they got all the BP assets at a bargain price they would rapidly dispose of the BP branded refining and marketing sectors. Shell would love to get hold of BP’s hydrocarbon reserves and some of their high-earning properties.
