In a Reuters article published today, the UK company Hakluyt & Company Limited is described as “an ultra-secretive firm that is purported to spy on companies in order to gather intelligence in a more covert manner.”

A Sunday Times article published in July 2001 detailed Shell/BP undercover activities including infiltration, spying and subversion operations around the world directed at perceived enemies. Contrary to The Sunday Times headline, it was not limited to “green groups” as can be confirmed by reading the article. The clandestine activity was carried out by Hakluyt & Company Limited.

Hakluyt, founded and heavily populated by former MI6 officers, has been closely associated with its client Shell, at one point sharing common directors and major shareholders.

Sir William Purves and the late Sir Peter Holmes, a former Group Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell Group, were the ultimate spymasters at Hakluyt when it carried out undercover work on behalf of Shell in many Countries.

Sir William was Chairman of Hakluyt & Company Limited and Sir Peter, President of the so called oversight organisation, The Hakluyt Foundation.

In 2004, my father (Alfred Donovan) and I had our own sinister dealings with Hakluyt and its founder, Christopher James. This arose from a period in which our family, friends and lawyers were besieged by dirty tricks and undercover activity, some of which had been admitted in writing by Shell. Hakluyt would not provide the outright denial we requested, only a carefully couched letter drafted after consultation with a titled lawyer Sir Anthony Hammond QC in bizarre circumstances.

Shell has in fact engaged in various clandestine activities against us for over a decade. This is confirmed by authentic Shell internal documents in our possession and by a high level source inside Shell Global Security, appalled by what has been going on.

Ian Forbes McCredie OBE, the former/current MI6 senior official, who until December 2010 headed up Shell Corporate Security, has returned to the Hakluyt/MI6 spy nest.
