Shell E&P Ireland has said tunnelling has commenced on the Corrib Gas onshore pipeline in Co Mayo.
The company said a specially designed boring machine called ‘Fionnuala’ installed the first concrete ring in the tunnel beneath the sea floor yesterday morning.
Construction of the tunnel, which will carry part of the Corrib onshore pipeline, is expected to last 15 months.
