Shell Companies in Nigeria, SCiN has awarded contracts worth $2.4 billion to indigenous contractors in order to boost local content in the nation.

It stated that SCiN awarded 96per cent of their total number of contracts to Nigerian companies (total value of $2.4 billion) in 2012, an increase of $1 billion above the 2011 figure.

The firm stated, “We have also signed off the Shell/ Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) road map. This presents a platform for the selection and deliberate capacity development support for some Nigerian indigenous service companies with a view to helping them become global players in the long term.

It maintained that in 2012, with approval from the Federal Government and NAPIMS, Shell Companies in Nigeria signed domestication agreements with six Original Equipment Manufacturers, OEM and their local partners to establish assembly/ manufacturing facilities in Nigeria. Each agreement specifies a target number of jobs to be generated with potentially huge multiplier effects.

The Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo, Mr. Chike Onyejekwe said in Lagos that, “I would like to thank our key partners: the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for giving us all the support on this local content journey.

He said, “I also thank the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Content, Hon. Asita for his continued support. My gratitude also goes to colleagues in Shell Companies in Nigeria for their commitment to local content. Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you once again to this exhibition’’.

He said, “Today we have brought together local suppliers with a bias for offshore related goods and services for the industry. This is just a way of showing that Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) is committed to increasing the capacity of Nigerians and Nigerian companies in a range of oil and gas industry activities, from design and engineering, to exploration and drilling’’.

Onyejekwe said, “Only recently, in Aberdeen we convened the 1st Global Nigerian Forum. This was a local content initiative designed to bring Nigerian technical professionals based in Aberdeen (Europe’s oil and gas industry hub) in contact with indigenous oil and gas service companies with the aim of forging collaboration to grow in-country capacity.

The Managing director said Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCiN) has a long – term and continuing commitment to Nigeria, its people and the economy. In addition to helping the country unlock its energy resources, one of the best ways we have delivered on that commitment is to increase the participation of Nigerian companies and individuals in our supply chain and operations – to ensure that as many Nigerians as possible benefit from our operations.
