His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei meeting Malcolm (TFA) Brinded, Shells then Executive Director, Upstream International
By John Donovan
There may be some relief by Muslim employees of Shell Brunei at the news that “Brunei has postponed the introduction of tough Islamic criminal punishments that were due to begin on Tuesday.”
Shell enjoys a so called symbiotic relationship with the scandal-tainted Brunei Royal family.
The oil giant gave a $500,000 gift for a lavish Brunei royal wedding in September 2004.
The Sultan must have been short of readies.
Many would view such a large sum as a bribe.
The Sultan is worth an estimated $20 billion and lives in an 1,800-room palace.
Wonder where he got all that loot.
Wonder if his wife is called a sultana?
His latest wife – his third if I have kept count accurately – is 33 years his junior.
Wonder how long it will be before she is worn out and he has his hand out again for the next wedding?
Ironic that the strongest supporters of Sharia law, such as the Saudi regime (also in bed with Shell), happen to be the biggest sinners?
I would not want Shell executives (or anyone else) to have their limbs cut off in any event for handing over bribes.
If such a law existed in regards to the controversial Corrib Gas project in Ireland, a large number of Shell executives would be at risk.
