I am aware of speculation over the claimed resignation of John Egan, as a director of Shell E&P Ireland.

It is, in fact, true.

The proof is provided below.

For a number of years, Egan has been the Communications supremo at Shell E&P Ireland, the main partner in the Corrib Gas Project, which has been surrounded by accusations of corruption from the outset.

Ironically, in view of his conduct, Egan claims expertise in reputation restoration.

On New Years Eve, Shell warned nearby residents about gas flaring at the newly commissioned onshore processing plant at Bellanaboy.

A video showing John Egan, describing the flaring as a “fantastic way to spend New Year’s Eve” was published on YouTube, then quickly removed without explanation.

Safe to assume it was a panicked reaction by Shell to the fright and horror expressed by the public on the apocalyptic scale of the flaring in the night sky said to be visible 60k away.

John Egan also has questions to answer in relation to an alcohol gifting scandal surrounding the project.

He sent wine pack gifts to many journalists in the hope of recruiting them to Shell’s side in the controversial project.

One unsolicited recipient was James Laffey, the editor of The Western People. He immediately returned the free booze on ethical grounds.

The Irish police force took a different approach. Senior Garda officers helped unload a consignment of free alcohol from Shell E&P Ireland worth £30,000. Drunken cops denied any knowledge.

Directors of OSSL, the “Mr Fixit” company instructed by Shell to deliver the free booze have admitted their role in the scandal.

Some may be suspicious that Michael Crothers, a Chief executive of Shell E&P, has been recently promoted as a reward for his role in covering up the fraud, which involved fictitious invoices passed through the main contractor, Roadbridge. Crothers is the Country Chairman of Shell Canada.
