Oil And Coal Firms Guilty Of ‘Great Deception’ Through Greenwashing, Say Climate Lawyers

David Vetter: Senior Contributor Sustainability Climate research, renewables and circularity: 19 April 2021

A team of U.K. lawyers today released what they say is new evidence showing that the world’s biggest fossil fuel companies are systematically “greenwashing” their image to make the public believe they are taking concrete steps to combat climate change. In reality, the lawyers say, the firms are committed to increasing the sale of fossil fuels, which will inevitably generate more greenhouse gas emissions. read more

Shell Urges Shareholders to Reject Activist Climate Plan

by Bloomberg | Laura Hurst | Thursday, April 15, 2021

(Bloomberg) — Royal Dutch Shell Plc’s board has urged shareholders to reject a climate resolution filed by Dutch activist investor Follow This in favor of its own energy transition plan, which the company will put to a vote next month.

The Anglo-Dutch major said that the Follow This resolution, which asks Shell to set and publish targets consistent with the goals of the Paris climate agreement, is “redundant” given its own “more comprehensive strategy,” according to a company notice. read more

Controversial £15 fee to ‘switch to a rival broadband firm’ is finally scrapped

Controversial £15 fee to ‘switch to a rival broadband firm’ is finally scrapped

By AARON BROWN PUBLISHED: 07:21, Thu, Apr 1, 2021

EXIT FEES were once commonplace from broadband providers, but have become something of a rarity in recent years. Shell Energy was one of the few hanging on, but thanks to pressure from Ofcom, it has now decided to ditch the £15 cost to move to BT, EE, Sky, or another rival internet supplier.

Internet supplier Shell Energy has confirmed plans to ditch its controversial £15 “cease fee” that was applied to home broadband customers who wanted to move to a rival provider. Bafflingly, the extra cost even applied to those who had come to the end of their minimum contract term. Most rival providers, including BT, Sky and Virgin Media, don’t charge a fee for users to leave when they’ve come to the end of their original contract – instead, these extra costs usually only rack up when leaving early. read more

MONEY GRAB: Britain’s energy firms set to make £1billion from price hikes for loyal customers

BRITAIN’S biggest energy firms are set for a £1billion windfall as they hike prices for hard-pressed loyal customers from Thursday.

Around ten million families on standard tariffs — many already with money struggles as a result of Covid — face bill rises of almost £100.

It comes after energy regulator Ofgem raised the price cap on standard variable tariffs.

They are the contracts that most people will be on if they have not switched supplier in the past year or so. read more
