Editorial Integrity of “A History of Royal Dutch Shell”

In fact all three Shell members of the editorial committee, Watts, Van der Veer and Munsiff, had form in the culture of corporate cover-up and were therefore ideal from the standpoint of Shell to have editorial influence over inclusion (or non-inclusion) of the dark side of Shell’s history and how that information was treated (spun?)

The official history of Royal Dutch Shell published in three volumes in 2007 was commissioned by the company and authored by historians associated with Utrecht University who were given unrestricted access to Royal Dutch Shell archives.

The relevant historians, who describe themselves as the researchers and authors of the work, say that none of them are Shell employees and claim that the work is “the fruit of our independent research” with their progress “monitored by an editorial committee, with an equal number of economic historians and company representatives.” read more

Taped telephone call confirms Shell Brent Bravo explosion cover-up

Bill Campbell believes that the innocent victims of Shell senior managements willingness to put production, profits, personal greed and ambition before the safety of Shell offshore employees, are being blamed for their own tragic avoidable deaths. Journalists who feel duped by information given to them by Shell, including by its then CEO Jeroen van der Veer, may wish to ask Bill Campbell for a transcript of his taped telephone conversation with Royal Dutch Shell Chief Internal Auditor Jakob Stausholm. It blows the lid off the Brent Bravo Scandal and the related cover-up.

Brinded didn’t jump, he was pushed

Printed below is an email sent to Grampian Police on 10 Sept 2012 by Bill Campbell, the retired HSE Group Auditor of Shell International. The email was copied to Jorma Ollila, Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Keith Ruddock, General Counsel Shell EP and Geoffrey Podger, Chief Executive of the UK Health & Safety Executive.

The email relates to the Shell Brent Bravo Scandal. In 2005, Shell was fined a record £900,000 at Stonehaven Sheriff Court, for a series of safety failings on the Brent Bravo platform, which led to a gas leak inside the giant platform’s utility leg and the tragic avoidable deaths of two workers, Keith Moncrieff and Sean McCue. read more

The Herald (Scotland): U-turn on Brent oil deaths inquiry

“Keith Moncrieff and Sean McCue died when they were exposed to hydrocarbon gases on the Brent Bravo platform on September 11, 2003. At Stonehaven Sheriff Court in March, Shell, the oil company, admitted three safety breaches which led to their deaths.”

GRAEME SMITH

Scotland’s senior law officer has overturned a decision not to hold a fatal accident inquiry into the deaths of two men on an oil platform.

Keith Moncrieff and Sean McCue died when they were exposed to hydrocarbon gases on the Brent Bravo platform on September 11, 2003.

At Stonehaven Sheriff Court in March, Shell, the oil company, admitted three safety breaches which led to their deaths.

Sheriff Patrick Davies said the firm was responsible for a “substantial catalogue of errors” which led to the tragedy and imposed a record £900,000 fine. Last month, the procurator-fiscal announced there would be no fatal accident inquiry into the deaths, infuriating offshore unions. read more

Update on Shell controversies involving the Police

Irish police investigation into alleged death threats against Shell whistleblowers on the Corrib Gas Project

In October 2010 I notified the Chief Police Commissioner of the Garda about alleged death threats made against Shell Corrib employees. Insiders had supplied us with a series of Shell internal emails containing sensitive confidential information about the Corrib Gas Project. Shell senior management had advance notice of the information I supplied to the Irish police and did not deny that the emails were authentic.

Except for an acknowledgement letter I received from a Chief Superintendent, I heard nothing further until I received a letter from Superintendent Patrick Diskin in April 2011. As a result of his letter, we supplied more information to the Garda. read more

Retired Shell HSE Group Auditor challenges Scottish Prosecutor – Royal Dutch Shell plc .com

RELATED SHELL BLOG POSTING TODAY BY “an observer of Shell”:

I have no proof nor will I ever find that proof, but this reprehensible conduct of the legal authorities smells to high heaven of masonic lodges. It is commonly known that a great many employees of Shell Expro are freemasons. The police forces all over the world are well presented in the various lodges. I would not be surprised if Brinded himself is a member. Bill Campbell is a very courageous man taking on these evil forces. We in Shell all knew him to be a completely honest and competent Maintenance manager and HSE auditor. But he loses against all the parasites and sycophants whose sole job is to protect the directors. And then live well on the spoils of their abhorrent activities. Top marks for the Donovans who keep this festering sore in the spotlight. To some it maybe a lot of repeating old stories, but those that want to hide and bury their bad actions know that time is on their side. And Shell has deep pockets and knows how to procrastinate. read more

Retired Shell HSE Group Auditor challenges Scottish Prosecutor

I do not speak for Mr Campbell, but the impression I have is that he believes that Shell has influence in high places within the Scottish establishment. It was extraordinary that after an investigation lasting over two years, the notification of your decision not to prosecute was first conveyed to the whistleblower who sparked the investigation, Mr Campbell, by a General Counsel representing the accused company, Shell. That was an unfortunate development.

Mystery of how Shell escaped Brent Bravo criminal prosecution: 7 Feb 2012

Prior to the explosion Mr Campbell had informed Shell senior management that a safety audit he led had revealed a “Touch F*** All” safety culture on the Brent Bravo platform and that safety records had been routinely falsified. Shell management’s failure to take appropriate remedial action led to the subsequent explosion.

Oil leak is threat to Shell hope in Arctic

It’s only 0.02pc as big as BP’s giant Gulf of Mexico oil leak at the moment.

But Royal Dutch Shell’s spillage of 1,300 barrels of crude into the North Sea from the Gannet field is still a big headache for the company as it tries to convince regulators it should be allowed to carry out drilling in the Arctic.

In the wake of BP’s disaster last year, Shell has tried to position itself as the solid and dependable one among the oil majors.

However, that image has been increasingly undermined by a series of issues in the North Sea that Glen Caley, Shell’s technical director in Europe, admits have made this a “challenging year”. read more

Royal Dutch Shell Whistleblower, Dr. John Huong Yiu Tuong, offers insider evidence to the Shell Brent Bravo Public Inquiry

By John Donovan of ShellNews.net

Information has reached us that Shell whistleblower, Dr John Huong, is in correspondence with the Scottish Authorities and has offered to give evidence to the recently announced Brent Bravo Public Inquiry into the deaths of two Shell employees on the Brent Bravo oil platform.

In April, Shell was fined £900,000 after admitting blunders leading to the deaths of two offshore workers Mr Moncrieff, of Invergowrie, Dundee, and Mr McCue, of Kennoway, Fife. Both were tragically suffocated by an escape of gas while inspecting a patch on a safety-critical pipeline in the leg of the platform. read more

The Times (UK): Rig evacuated after leak

Tuesday 9 August 2005

A North Sea oil platform where two workers were killed was at the centre of another safety scare yesterday after a leak was discovered in one of the rig’s legs.

More than 80 workers were airlifted from the Shell-operated Brent Bravo, which lies 116 miles north-east of Lerwick in Shetland, after the hydrocarbon leak was found on Sunday night. A number of employees have remained on the platform, which is in the process of shutting down so that the leak can be repaired. A spokesman said it was a small oil leak and no gas had escaped. read more

EIGHTY-SIX workers have been evacuated from a North Sea platform after an oil leak in a storage tank in one of the installation’s main legs.

The precautionary evacuation began on Sunday night after the leak was discovered by a technician on Shell’s Brent Bravo platform.
