Ratification of the agreement on the development of the Greater Sunrise gas fields is one of eight priorities of Timor Leste’s new government.

The national parliament yesterday approved the ‘Programme of the II (second) Constitutional Government’, by 68 votes in favour, two against and one abstention, said the Prime Minister’s Office. The programme contains the main political goals for Timor Leste.

Prime Minister José Ramos-Horta said the eight priorities were community reconciliation; security consolidation and reform of the security and defence institutions; general and presidential elections; poverty reduction and economic growth; good governance; develop and consolidation of diplomatic relations with friends; final definition of the land border between Timor-Leste and Indonesia; and ratification of the agreement established with Australia regarding the joint exploration of the Greater Sunrise fields.

The fields have nearly 8 trillion cubic feet of gas and 300 million barrels of condensate.

The project partners are operator Woodside (33.44%), ConocoPhillips (30%), Shell (26.56%) and Osaka Gas (10%).
