Nine Chinese oil workers who were abducted by militants in a dawn raid at their work location by militants last week, were yesterday released unharmed.

The nine who work for the Chinese National Petroleum Company (CNPC), were kidnapped in an operation saw a militant losing his life and which the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Hafiz Ringim, said was an armed robbery raid as the militants broke into the company’s account department and made away with the January salary of the workers.
 
The militants, THISDAY recalls had invaded the operation yard of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) at Sagbama in Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State at about six am from the Farcados river in two boats, and in well coordinated operation in which they divided themselves into two group. read more

Lord Browne of Madingley will deliver his last presentation of BP’s strategy to the City tomorrow and fund managers will be looking for hints about how the company intends to mend its battered reputation and reverse the steady erosion of its share price over the past 12 months.

Britain’s largest company is likely to come under pressure to deliver further sweeteners to disillusioned short-term investors.

The oil company invested about $16 billion (£8 million) of its cashflow in buying back shares last year, but instead of sharing in value appreciation, loyal BP investors suffered as the price plummeted. read more
