Qatar, Shell to build China oil, petchem complex

PetroChina, Asia's top oil and gas producer and China's second-largest refinery, will own 51 percent in the proposed joint venture, while Shell and Qatar will each own 24.5 percent, said Shell and CNPC, parent of PetroChina.

Oil continues to rise as Nigerian rebels attack Shell platform 120 miles offshore

Exacerbating the situation is Nigeria, where armed rebels opened a new front in their campaign against foreign oil companies last week by attacking a Royal Dutch Shell platform 120 miles of the coast. Deepwater platforms have generally been viewed as safe from attack, given their distance from the coast.

Raiders of the Russian billions

Last week even BP's chairman Peter Sutherland used the word raiding. BP's Russian partners were trying to seize control of TNK-BP, their troubled joint venture, using dubious 1990s "corporate raiding" practices, he said.
