Following my revelation that Clive Mather, head of Shell Canada, will be the special guest at an Evangelical Alliance evening on valuing trust, here’s another executive who wants a word in your Shell-like.

For just £142 you can hear Jeroen van der Veer, chairman of Royal Dutch/Shell, speaking at the Energy Institute’s autumn lunch. According to the blurb, Mr van der Veer believes “it is important to allow people to contribute to Shell in their own way, while the leadership helps them to focus their energies on what matters”. read more

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Shell Canada Ltd. has acquired a large tract of land in northeastern British Columbia for C$85 million ($69 million) as it looks to repeat recent gas drilling success, the company said on Thursday.

Shell Canada, the country’s No. 2 oil producer and refiner, said it picked up 58,000 acres in the Deep Basin area and it expects to start drilling next winter.

The company has been boosting exploration efforts in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and in 2004 made a large gas discovery after reexamining lands it has drilled for years. read more

Mather not worried about competition from LNG imports, doesn’t buy talk that Mackenzie window could close by late July

Gary Park

Petroleum News Canadian Correspondent

Shell Canada’s boss is not about to join the ranks of those who fear liquefied natural gas projects in Canada will topple the Mackenzie Gas Project.

Neither is he about to set a “drop-dead” deadline for the C$7 billion Arctic venture.

Chief executive officer Clive Mather left no doubt June 9 that Shell Canada is fully committed to standing behind its 11.2 percent interest in the Mackenzie consortium and, to that extent, doesn’t agree with those who think the window of opportunity is about to close. read more

CALGARY (CP) – Shell Canada Ltd. is still committed to proceeding with the $7-billion Mackenzie Valley natural gas pipeline in the Northwest Territories but not without clear guidelines from Ottawa, the energy giant’s president and chief executive said Thursday.

“Mackenzie Delta for us is a very, very important project and we are committed to doing it,” Clive Mather told the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

“But what we went to see is some unblocking of the regulatory processes so we can actually get this thing started again.” read more

The Evangelical Alliance’s Temple Address “provides an important opportunity for those who hold responsible positions in business, public life and the church to hear the Christian response to the challenges facing society,” gushes my invitation.

This year’s takes place on October 27 on the subject of valuing trust and I reckon they’ll shift more tickets than the Olympics.

Daily Mail: American woman for Shell board

Daily Mail: American woman for Shell board

19 May 2004,

TROUBLED oil giant Royal Dutch/Shell has opted to beef up its board with a company veteran rather than go outside for fresh blood.

American Linda Cook, 45, head of Shell Canada, becomes one of four managing directors at the company, bolstering a hierarchy depleted by the recent sackings of ex-chairman Sir Phil Watts, finance chief Judy Boynton and exploration boss Walter van de Vijver over the reserves debacle.

Cook, born in Kansas, joined Shell in 1980. She takes on her new job from 1 August. Her appointment will leave fellow managing director Malcolm Brinded free to run the core oil and gas division, at the centre of the scandal about overstated reserves.
