Nigerian youths have blown up an oil pipeline belonging to Chevron, the US energy company, writes Matthew Green .
Reuters quoted Nigeria’s military authorities as saying that the raid on the Abiteye-Olero pipeline on Thursday stopped about 120,000 barrels per day of oil production.
The sabotage took place hours after militants shut down 200,000 b/d of oil production from Royal Dutch Shell’s Bonga oilfield.
Meanwhile, the militant Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said yesterday it would observe a ceasefire from midnight tomorrow after a request from local elders.
