Shell has scrapped plans to lock workers out of its multi-billion dollar offshore gas facility, Prelude, citing safety concerns.

Workers onboard the facility 400 kilometres off Western Australia’s Kimberley coast are engaged in protected industrial action in a bid to push for better wages.

The Anglo-Dutch energy giant shut down the facility and suspended production in response to strikes earlier this month. read more

BG International Limited, an affiliate of Shell U.K. Limited, has taken the final investment decision (FID) to develop the Jackdaw gas field in the UK North Sea, following regulatory approval earlier this year. Jackdaw will comprise a wellhead platform that is not permanently attended, along with subsea infrastructure which will tie back to Shell’s existing Shearwater gas hub.

The project is expected to come online in the mid-2020s, and at peak production rates, could represent over 6% of projected UK North Sea gas production in the middle of this decade, with operational emissions of less than 1% of the whole UK basin. That is enough energy to heat 1.4 million homes. read more

It follows the Milan Public Prosecutor’s appeal withdrawal earlier this week, which ended all criminal proceedings and confirmed the Milan Tribunal’s decision to acquit Shell and four of our former employees in March 2021. read more

Our home broadband has been very temperamental recently, disconnecting no less than 20 times a day. Speed is terrible, a tiny bit more than dial up! I’ve been trying to get support with no luck, and the only reply I received was a week ago by email – that’s all. I’ll take the matter further by seeking legal advice to leave this contract before it ends. This level of customer service with such low speed is not acceptable in 2022! read more

The West African country, which joined the case as a civil party in 2018, still plans to appeal the March 2021 ruling by a court in Milan acquitting the energy giants and several of their current and former executives of corruption charges, Olabode Johnson, a lawyer for the Nigerian government, said by phone. read more

Threatening automated phone call

If you have broadband and homephone from this company and pay quarterly be warned. My bill was sent out late and I paid by return of post. The money was taken from my bank account and I thought no more about it.

Then I received a suspicious automated phone call threatening to cut off my phone and broadband. Thinking this sounded like a scam particularly as payment was requested over the phone I phoned Shell to point out someone was making scam calls on their behalf, since I knew I’d paid the bill. But it was not a scam they were deadly serious. ‘Bills were sent out late and it takes a while for payments to be received in our accounts’.
What a pathetic response from Shell! I’d expect a commitment to send bills on time, set realistic deadlines and to cease threatening automated calls. Was this irrelevant response also written by a machine?? read more

Ben Van Beurden was speaking at an energy conference in Oxford when he made the comments that were reported by The Financial Times .

The Shell boss predicted “significantly” higher gas prices if Vladimir Putin continues to slow supplies to Europe and said that he couldn’t rule out Russia cutting off supplies entirely.

Putin had shown he was “able and willing to weaponize energy supplies,” Van Beurden said. read more

Our article – “Spectacular falling out of ‘Security Professionals’ at the top of Shell” – is reprinted on several pages of a recently filed 177-page “Exhibit A” in an astonishing lawsuit involving the head of Shell Global Corporate Affairs Security, James W.D. Hall.

Mr Hall has faced a succession of accusers, starting with the Security Manager for Shell Oil Company, Crockett Oaks III. Shell settled his claim. Mr Mike Oliveri, another guy with a senior military/security affairs background also sued Shell on related allegations involving Mr Hall. Mr Oliveri is a decorated war veteran, a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr Hall’s current accuser is Mr Walied Shater a former US Secret Service agent. read more

Rationing of energy in Europe cannot be ruled out, the boss of energy giant Shell has warned, due to worries over the supply of gas from Russia.

Speaking at an energy conference, Ben van Beurden said a “really tough winter in Europe” was ahead, with energy prices set to see “significant” rises.

Energy prices jumped earlier this year after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Russia has also been accused of using gas “as a weapon” by limiting supplies in response to EU sanctions. read more
