Shell Prelude Whistleblower and Worker Strikes

Posted by John Donovan: 23 Nov 2024

Oh, Shell. Just when you thought they couldn’t look worse, here they are proving once again why they’re the undisputed heavyweight champion of corporate callousness. Allegations of retaliation? Check. Industrial disputes? Double-check. And let’s not forget a court ruling that gives them a free pass to keep polluting. Truly a masterpiece of modern greed.

Whistleblower? Meet the Shell Machine

Former Shell safety engineer Irina Woodhead is pulling back the curtain on the Prelude circus. Her crime? Daring to speak up about serious safety concerns on the Prelude FLNG project. Her reward? Alleged retaliation, career destruction, and a tribunal system that apparently runs on bias instead of justice. Woodhead’s words are chilling:

“I can’t secure a job whilst the judgment of 2023 is online containing false information about me.”

That’s right, Shell allegedly torpedoed her career while whistling a merry tune about “integrity.” And while Woodhead calls for whistleblowing reforms to stop corporations from steamrolling those who dare to speak out, Shell, predictably, remains tight-lipped. A round of applause for corporate transparency, everyone!

Worker Strikes: Prelude to Disruption

As if trashing whistleblowers and the climate wasn’t enough, Shell is also sparring with offshore logistics crews contracted through QUBE Offshore. These workers are fighting for industry-standard pay and conditions at the Prelude FLNG facility — the same one where Woodhead raised her safety concerns.

The Offshore Alliance isn’t pulling any punches:

“We are gearing up to once again halt operations at Prelude in our fight for industry-standard pay and conditions.”

Shell, of course, washed its hands of the dispute, saying it’s the contractor’s problem. Classic Shell move — because why pay workers a living wage when you can rake in billions while blaming someone else for the mess?

Shell retaliates against whistleblowers (allegedly), screws over workers, dodges court-ordered emissions cuts, and still gets to call itself a “responsible” energy company. Meanwhile, their biggest investors, like BlackRock, are laughing all the way to the bank.

This is not just a tale of corporate greed. It’s a masterclass in how to weaponize power, influence, and spin to crush dissent, ignore responsibility, and rake in profits. Shell is the ultimate sin stock.
