MONTREAL – Hundreds of thousands of Quebec motorists may be eligible to receive money from Shell as part of a settlement of a class-action lawsuit.
Motorists could get anywhere from $20 to $450 in compensation from Shell to pay for damage caused to their vehicles because of an additive in the company’s regular gasoline between March 2001 and March 2002.
The additive left residue at the bottom of gas tanks causing faulty operations.
Reports say as many as 500,000 Quebecers may qualify for part of the settlement, which could cost Shell up to $100 million.
Similar problems with the additive in Shell’s gasoline were reported in British Columbia and Alberta.
