Shell to Sea protestor ends hunger strike
Friday, 19 September 2008
Shell to Sea protestor Maura Harrington has ended her hunger strike.
Ms. Harrington had been refusing to eat in protest at the presence of the Solitaire ship in Broadhaven Bay to lay pipes for the Corrib gas line and called off her action after receiving written confirmation that the vessel has left Irish territorial waters.
Earlier today, Environment Minister John Gormley said it may be time for his colleague, Energy Minister Eamon Ryan to meet with those involved in the Shell to Sea protest in North Mayo.
Ms. Harrington, who had been on hunger strike for 11 days, has said she was relieved that it was over.
