Seeking Support for the Definitive Ken Saro-Wiwa Documentary on Environmental Justice and Human Rights

Dear John Donavan,

My name is Nathan Achim Sheppard, I am the director of Fried Egg Productions and keeper of the archival footage of my late friend Ken Saro-Wiwa, the ultimate African climate activist who paid with his life during the mission for Niger Delta environmental justice.

In association with Winifred O. Adeyemi, the British-Nigerian founder and director of AFRICA: Seen & Heard who has won global critical acclaim and multiple awards licensing my footage to the short doc “I Am More Dangerous Dead”, I am co-directing and co-producing the documentary feature film outlined within the attached Synopsis.

Our film will premiere in synergy with the 30-year commemoration of the extrajudicial killing of Ken and the Ogoni 8 in November 2025. We are 60% of the way through production with four shooting blocks to be filmed in the UK and Nigeria. We require funding to achieve our goal.

In an age of climate activism and with ecocide increasingly recognised as an international crime against humanity, this film should be produced as it delivers Ken’s voice, environmental and social documentation and over 30 years of investigation and interviews with prominent personalities and organisations at the forefront of environmentalism, climate action and social justice. The film will contain previously unseen and prophetic revelatory statements by Ken in my interview a few hours before his final departure to Lagos and his untimely date with death by hanging, The Ogoni 9.

All funds raised will be utilised to complete specific aspects of our production schedule including shooting an interview with 90-year-old Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka in Lagos Nigeria, the creation of opening and closing animation overseen by an Oscar-winning animator, the transferring, grading and editing of archive footage to join seamlessly with contemporarily shot material and a comprehensive and dynamic marketing campaign to optimally position the film within the international circuit and global distribution networks.

As well as contributing to what will undoubtedly be one of the most important environmental and human rights documentary feature films of our time, you will ensure the introduction and revitalisation of  Ken Saro-Wiwa’s great work to a new generation and inspire unrepresented nations to protect their natural environments from the continuous exploitation of Big Oil.

Not a day goes by when Ken’s name is not mentioned in international media.

We thank you for your time in advance to read this treatment as part of the change our world needs at this crucial tipping point of climate change and social injustice and also welcome your feedback or comments on this unprecedented project.

Yours sincerely,

Nathan Achim Sheppard
