We’re taking a trip down memory lane to the dark days of World War II. You know, back when Hitler was still rocking his signature mustache and the world was in a state of utter chaos. But guess who was lurking in the shadows. None other than our pals at Royal Dutch Shell.
Yep, turns out, while Hitler was busy turning Europe into his own personal playground, Shell was right there by his side, cheering him on like a proud parent at a Little League game. According to the annals of history, Shell’s big boss man, Sir Henri Deterding, was practically BFFs with ol’ Adolf himself. They even had cozy 4 day meeting at Berchtesgaden, where they presumably chatted about world domination over tea and biscuits.
But wait, it gets even juicier! Not only did Shell cozy up to the Nazis, but they also bankrolled the Third Reich. That’s right, while the rest of the world was busy fighting fascism, Shell was writing checks like there was no tomorrow. And let’s not forget about their stellar employee roster, which reportedly included several hundred card-carrying Nazi fanatics. Talk about a real who’s who of historical villains.
But the pièce de résistance? Deterding’s grand burial ceremony, which was more like a Nazi cosplay convention than a solemn farewell. Picture this: a horse-drawn funeral hearse, swastika banners fluttering in the breeze, and a guest list that read like a who’s who of the Third Reich. Oh, and did we mention the personal tributes from none other than Hitler himself? It’s like something out of a twisted alternate reality where evil reigns supreme.

On April 30, 1945, holed up in a bunker under his bunker headquarters in Berlin, Adolf Hitler committed suicide. Soon after, Germany unconditionally surrendered to the Allied forces, ending Hitler’s dreams of a “1,000-year” Reich.
So, what’s the moral of this sordid tale? Well, it’s simple: never trust a company with a shady past and a penchant for cozying up to dictators. Because when push comes to shove, Shell will always choose profits over principles. And that, dear readers, is the real tragedy of it all.
The company secretary of Royal Dutch Shell Plc threatened legal action if we published this story. Turned out to be another empty threat. Much of the information comes from Shell’s own archives.
