 JOHN DONOVAN RELATIONSHIP WITH SHELL

 JOHN DONOVAN RELATIONSHIP WITH SHELL

Background in Petrol Retailing and Early Involvement with Shell (1957-1979)

1957: My father, Alfred Donovan, had a business relationship with Shell, operating a chain of petrol stations and garages in Essex, with Shell as one of his suppliers. I later became a partner in the business trading as A & J Donovan.

1967: I first became involved in petrol promotions, offering promotional games as an alternative to trading stamps at UK forecourts for various brands, including Shell. read more

CHAPTER 3: Donovan vs Shell litigation

Shell stole confidential intellectual property from us on several occasions. We sued and Shell settled. The settlements were inevitably surrounded by secrecy and deception designed to prevent embarrassing information from reaching third parties, particularly Shell shareholders.

LITIGATION BETWEEN 1994 AND 1996

Shell tried to keep the court settlements in the pre-Smart litigation secret  – see pdf of magazine feature – “High Court papers unveil ‘secret’ Shell writ losses.”

CHAPTER 15: Assisting third parties to challenge Shell

It is a fact that our website has been used to publish public appeals on behalf of a number of parties, including the WWF and Friends of the Earth, who wanted to reach Shell shareholders, Shell employees, or the public. Information about the various public appeals can be found on a Wikipedia archive article from which the above extract is taken.

Chapter 22: Author’s unique connection with Shell

John Donovan, the author of “Sir Henri Deterding and the Nazi History of Royal Dutch Shell

As the Chairman of an International sales promotion agency and more recently as an individual, I have a relationship with Royal Dutch Shell stretching back over 35 years. It has been the subject of media coverage in newspapers, magazines and TV news and documentary features. It took a wrong turn when Shell misappropriated  ideas I had disclosed to the company in strictest confidence.

In  the Ed Vulliamy article about my campaign to rename a $3 billion new ship hired by Shell, reference was made to a Shell related website I co-founded with my late father a decade ago:  read more

Shell Connections

By Alfred Donovan

I understand that the next court hearing in respect of Shell’s latest legal proceedings against Malaysian geologist, Dr John Huong, who worked for Shell for almost 30 years, will be heard on 21 May. He is being sued for defamation and contempt of court by EIGHT multinational companies within the Royal Dutch Shell Group. The magnitude of the collective litigation against a single unemployed human being is unprecedented.

According to the most recent court papers we have seen, the Plaintiff companies are seeking the imprisonment of Dr Huong for contempt of court in respect of an Injunction and Restraining Order obtained in 2004. They have also recently served further injunctive proceedings against him in dramatic intimidating circumstances at his home, in the dark of night. Again, this is unprecedented. read more

ShellNews.net: Dr Huong protest continues at Shell Centre: Thursday 4 May 2006

 BY ALFRED DONOVAN

The leaflets issued at the Shell Centre on Thursday 4th May 2006 contained extracts from an article published on ShellNews.net almost two years ago under the name of famed Shell geologist Dr John Huong, who was a Shell employee for almost 30 years.

The article, along with two others, is currently the subject of a High Court Restraining Order and Injunction obtained by EIGHT Royal Dutch Shell companies against Dr Huong.

The litigation escalated dramatically in recent weeks with the same companies issuing a flood of further proceedings against Dr Huong. Shell has preferred to ignore the facts known to them since July 2004 regarding who was actually responsible for the publication of the articles in question (and all subsequent publications which happen to the subject of ALL of the subsequent Shell legal proceedings). read more
