COMMENT RECEIVED FROM MR BILL CAMPBELL, RETIRED HSE GROUP AUDITOR, SHELL INTERNATIONAL RE OUR ARTICLE ABOUT SHELL EXPLORATION MANAGER ROLAND SPUIJ (PERSON ON RIGHT)

TALKING THE TALK

Re your article: Shell exploration manager Roland Spuij – deluded or ignorant?

Deluded and or ignorant, no, Mr Spuij is just reading from the script, repeating the standard Shell propaganda that Safety is our No 1 priority and will never be compromised, despite any facts to the contrary.

Although as he says Shell were not involved in the Transocean Deepwater Horizon disaster – according to Peter R Voser a disaster that Shell in any case would have avoided due to its superior standards – he fails to mention the Transocean SEDCO 711 incident when this mobile drilling unit had a near blowout whilst operating in the North Sea on behalf of Shell – you covered all this in detail at the time on your web pages. read more

Shell Classic International concert-goers applaud Shell Out Sounds performance highlighting sponsor’s human rights record

Screen Shot 2013-04-25 at 22.07.54

On the evening of Monday 22nd April, a group of about 10 singers and musicians called ‘Shell Out Sounds’ (SOS) returned to the Southbank Centre to give another musical intervention, during the interval of a Shell-sponsored performance by Imogen Cooper and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. The ensemble premiered a new piece called ‘The Riddle of the Niger Delta’, written specifically for the concert, setting the poignant words of the Nigerian environmental and human rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa. The group handed out flyers about Shell’s human rights record to audience members, many of whom stopped to listen and applauded at the end of the song. The Southbank Centre duty visitor manager said the performers were welcome to come back and perform whenever they liked, and were invited to discuss the issue of Shell sponsorship with the Southbank Centre PR team. read more

By 2023, a Changed World in Energy

By : A version of this article appeared in print on April 25, 2013, on page F1 of the New York edition

HOUSTON

IF you could close your eyes for just a moment like Rip Van Winkle, and blink them open in 2023, you might see a very different energy world.

Electric cars may be popular. Solar energy could be cheap enough that millions of households and businesses deploy solar panels to generate their power needs. Fossil fuels will probably still dominate, but most trucks and many trains could run on natural gas rather than more polluting diesel. And the United States could be a major oil exporter.

None of this is implausible. Consider the change over the last 10 years. Back in 2003, American natural gas fields were thought to be drying up and energy entrepreneurs were beginning to invest in hugely expensive terminals to import gas, not export it. American oil production continued to plummet. read more

Hi John

I thought I would let a few people know that I’ve just added a new song about Shell to my soundcloud page:

‘Shall We Go?’, which utilises Shell’s current catchphrase ‘Let’s Go’, was written as part of our ongoing London-based Shell Out Sounds project, which aims to use music and performance to sever the link between the Southbank Centre and Shell: www.shelloutsounds.org

There’s also an instrumental version, in case you or anyone you know might want to use it for Shell-related or other positive purposes. (Please let me know if you do.) read more

Dear John,

Thank you for all that you are doing and contributing to the cause of the oppressed.

God bless you mightily and please keep up the good work.

The God of the widows and orphans will guide and lead/strengthening you to continue standing/fighting for the Oppressed.

Your readers may be interested in these extracts from an article about my court case against Royal Dutch Shell arising from Shell’s activities in Nigeria.

We are holding Shell responsible for the crimes committed against us and the rest of humanity. I was stripped naked, tortured, and locked up twice, while my husband and the rest of the Ogoni 9 were maimed, strangled, killed and acidized. I have proofs of those who were paid by Shell, and who were in their payroll to lie, testify, some of them sworn affidavit in court.  do have documents that implicate Shell. The documents were sent through my late husband’s office as Honorable Commissioner for Commerce and Tourism during the Komo administration as military governor of Rivers State. I do have pictures of Shell’s cronies airlifting my husband in their helicopter, dressed in uniform and helmet that bore Shell’s logo. There are also secret documents to prove how Shell tried to bribe my husband in an executive meeting at the government house in Port Harcourt, when they planned to arrest and kill Ken Saro-Wiwa. Will Shell’s new V-Power Nitro Plus fuel ruin car engines?

I remember the launch of another wonder fuel by Shell in 1986, “Formula Shell”, based on new technology and with a scientific image deliberately conjured up by Shell. There was only one small problem. The new wonder fuel ruined many car engines and it did so on an international basis.

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 16.45.17

By John Donovan

The Telegraph has published an article today under the headline: Can Shell’s new ‘Formula 1’ petrol ease anger at pumps?

It asks: Is Shell’s new petrol – Shell’s new V-Power Nitro Plus fuel – as good as the fuel used in Formula 1 cars?

Extract

David Moss, the chief executive of Shell UK who was in Battersea to launch the fuel with Ferrari, accepted that petrol prices are “not cheap” but he insisted his company is not to blame. “If you take out the duties and taxes that customers pay in the UK, the fuel prices are some of the most competitive in Europe,” he said. “It is a very, very competitive market place and Shell has to be competitively placed.” He denies charges that Shell and others are profiteering from a captured UK market. read more

RAGE AGAINST THE SHELL CORRIB BORING MACHINE

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 15.27.50

Come to act in solidarity with the campaign in Mayo against Shell’s Corrib Gas Project. For over 12 years, the local community have been resisting Shell’s plans to force through a high pressure raw gas pipeline and inland refinery. Local people have gone through all possible channels to fight the project.

Let down by the Government; many have been beaten, imprisoned and feel under siege by the security and police. However people continue to protest in order to protect their families, livelihoods and resources. Currently Shell are attempting to tunnel under an EU ‘protected’ estuary with their tunnel boring machine but they are experiencing major construction problems. If they are having difficulties without protests, imagine how much havoc a little more disruption will cause. Rossport is the frontline of the resistance to ‘Extreme Energy’ extraction in Ireland. read more

Greenpeace launches Arctic “whistleblower” site for oil workers

OSLO | Wed Apr 24, 2013 4:20am EDT

(Reuters) – Environmental group Greenpeace launched a website on Wednesday seeking to attract whistleblowers from within oil companies to reveal risks with drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic.

Greenpeace wants governments to ban oil and gas firms from the fragile Arctic environment.

It urged employees of oil firms and sub-contractors to submit information to the new website (www.arctictruth.org) if they knew about serious safety issues or risks that were in the public interest. read more

Shell exploration manager Roland Spuij – deluded or ignorant?

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 00.00.30By John Donovan

Printed below is a deluded article written by a Shell exploration manager – Roland Spuij (prat on the right) – who apparently is totally ignorant of Shell’s track record of giving a higher priority to production and profits than to the safety of its offshore workers. Either that, or he is trying to deliberate mislead New Zealanders?  Same applies to his comments about Shell’s conduct in Nigeria. Has he forgotten that in 2009 Shell paid $15.5 million (£9.7m) as an out-of-court settlement in a case accusing it of complicity in human rights abuses in Nigeria. 17 pages of correspondence between Shell and the Nigerian Police – authentic exhibits from the litigation – prove Shell supplied arms and ammunition to the Nigerian police force (part of a corrupt murderous regime) read more
