Energy company Shell is reportedly reconsidering its decision to pull out of the controversial Cambo oilfield.
Work on the proposed development off the west coast of Shetland was paused in December after Shell decided to withdraw from the project, concluding the economic case for investment was “not strong enough”.read more
I am writing to you in your capacity as AWU WA branch Secretary and spokesman for the Offshore Alliance representing many Shell Prelude FLNG workers.
As you will be aware Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is driving natural gas prices ever higher amid a potential shortage of gas in many markets.
Will the energy crisis cause reckless employers like Shell to endanger the lives of their workers, some of whom, as I have already mentioned, are your members?
There does seem to be a recipe for potential disaster arising from the controversial Prelude project – a risky experiment that has already survived a series of extremely dangerous close calls ending in a shutdown – being restarted prematurely, driven by greed to take advantage of a crisis situation.
I pose this question in view of the publication of recent articles starting with one published by my website, royaldutchshellplc.com in collaboration with Bill Campbell, the retired HSE Group Auditor of Shell International.

March 18 (Reuters) – SHELL announced on Friday it has applied for a license from Brazil’s environmental agency Ibama to generate offshore wind power in six areas in the country.
The six projects are located in the Brazilian states of Piaui, Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul. The total installed capacity of the projects will be 17 gigawatts.
The studies on the areas are set to begin early this year.read more
Shell has submitted new plans to develop a huge gas field in the North Sea, six months after they were rejected by environmental regulators, in an attempt to help Britain become less dependent on foreign suppliers.

Recently I was moved from Post Office to Shell Energy. This was for landline telephone. Over 2 weeks ago I paid extra to get Broadband. Since that point, I have been unable to contact Shell Energy and have received no communication from them whatsoever. I have spent over 3 hours on the telephone and have still not been able to get through to a human being to discuss this. I sent an email – nothing. I have to say, so far, they are USELESS! In terms of customer support and customer service, they have NONE! If you want even a small degree of customer interaction, AVOID this company.read more
Environmental law firm ClientEarth, a Shell shareholder, said Tuesday that it had notified Shell of its claim against the company’s 13 executive and non-executive directors.
It argues the board’s failure to implement a climate strategy that truly aligns with the landmark Paris Agreement is a breach of their duties under English law.
In response to the legal action, Shell told CNBC via email that it was delivering on its global strategy that supported the Paris accord.
Shell’s board is being sued for failing to prepare the multinational oil and gas company for the transition away from fossil fuels.

Shell directors may face lawsuit over climate transition plans

LONDON — Environmental lawyers ClientEarth said on Tuesday they were preparing legal action against the directors of Shell over the company’s climate transition plan, in what they said would be the first such case of its kind.
The ClientEarth lawyers said they are seeking to hold the directors personally liable for what they consider to be a failure to adequately prepare for the global shift to a low-carbon economy, claiming an alleged breach of the directors’ duties under the UK Companies Act.
ClientEarth said it had written to Shell notifying it of its claim and was waiting for it to respond before filing papers at the High Court of England and Wales. For the case to proceed, ClientEarth would then need permission from the court to do so.read more

I had Shell Energy broadband installed yesterday after waiting a week for an engineer. The internet connectivity seems ok, but the WiFi won’t switch on.Connecting with the support last night on webchat was painful. It took 2 hours to get to an agent, who then brushed me off with *switch on your WiFi” and “have you tried your username and password?” Before dropping the call. I’ve been holding for their telephone “support” for over an hour.read more

The murder of a Shell exec investigating corruption

In November 2003, Shell executive Todd Staheli was murdered along with his wife Michelle whilst he was in Brazil investigatinga corruption scheme involving Petrobras and hundreds of millions of dollars paid in kickbacks and bribes. Shell was losing millions of dollars in joint ventures with Petrobras.
In January 2006 we received an email from a close relative of Todd Staheli asking us whether Shell was involved in his murder. read more

Dutch watchdog says gas production at Groningen remains unsafe
AMSTERDAM, March 8 (Reuters) – A Dutch watchdog said on Tuesday that gas production from Groningen field remained a safety threat, as Europe races to find other sources of the fuel to wean itself off Russian supplies in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Dutch government has been winding down Groningen for years because production triggers earthquakes in the area and it plans to cease output entirely by October. But the government has not ruled out a change course in an emergency.read more

Broadband keeps cutting out and speed down to 4mb/s. Tried all solutions on their website but no improvement so tried contact shell by landline but no one will answer phone calls .have been phoning for 2 days now at different times but no answer. time to look for new supplier
Terrible service for shell energy broadband customers. Eternal long contracts where you have no rights in terms of speed, which is far below the contract and what they promise. You can’t even cancel without hefty cancellation fees even if you are moving home where the service is not provided. You call service and all they want is to screw your over. Been trying to get rid of them for ages. I returned the router asap and paid for the usage I had. I also submitted a formal complaint and there is no mercy, no help when you wanna leave due to all this shortcomings. Avoid!! If speeds are slow they don’t care and charge! I wish they would let me go without further trouble and hefty fees when they provided awful internet for months and they still punish the customer. Horrible! Avoid at all cost.read more

Shell sorry and pledges to stop buying Russian oil
Shell has pledged to stop buying oil from Russia as it apologised for its purchase of cheap Russian crude at the weekend.
The energy giant also said it would close all its service stations in the country and stop all current work in the country.
Shell came under huge criticism at the weekend after it purchased a cargo of Russian crude at a discounted price.
Its boss said on Tuesday, however, that it was wrong to buy Russian oil.
“We are acutely aware that our decision last week to purchase a cargo of Russian crude oil… was not the right one and we are sorry,” Mr van Beurden said.read more
Debbie: They really are useless little or no customer service. If you do get to talk to someone they haven't got a clue how to solve things. Never been happy since first signing. I never thought I would admit this but they make TalkTalk seem good. I am now fighting against the cost of 39 po7nd because I haven't returned it. Once again they are lying saying they sent out a self addressed envelope for the return of the modem. Must have got lost in the post.Also my contract ended 8th January it is now 24th and they only just let know. As a company they are devious untrustworthy and morally corrupt. I recall a lot of competent and committed people at BG Group, I also recall a toxic culture among those aspiring to climb the leadership “greasy pole” at all costs. If Mr Gould’s disparaging comments were not aimed at the latter group, it’s no surprise the meeting ended on a low note. These are the people that set targets, but if they can’t perceive how to deliver, someone (not them) has to be held to account.
Seems like the pressure was being felt regarding Queensland Curtis LNG and the toxic ‘blame culture’ was in full-swing. I understood the cost overrun on this project was in the region of £3.3bn, which is surprising as their General Counsel at the time had written the highly regarded book ‘Project Finance’. It must have been left behind in TVP in preference for “back-end loading”.
Wrath: In response to Bogus Group's enquiry.
The reference to Contractors being given 'equal' status to Employees refers to a speech given by Andrew Gould, then Executive Chairman of BG Group, at a Townhall meeting in the BG cafeteria in the Hutton Building, Thames Valley Business Park, in Q4 2014.
At that Townhall meeting Mr Gould, during his speech to the assembled staff, made many references to 'you' (meaning BG Group Staff) failing to meet targets. (A Freudian slip, perhaps, given his ambition for a knighthood?). Eventually, a senior staff member in the audience corrected Mr Gould and said that he (the senior staff member) would feel happier if Mr Gould used the pronoun 'we' instead of 'you', at which point Mr Gould accepted the criticism and corrected himself. During that speech, Mr Gould also said that it was vital that BG Group meet their targets, especially first export of QC LNG coalbed methane to LNG, by year end. In order to achieve this he said that BG Group Contractors would have 'equal' status to BG Group Employees i.e. 'all hands to the pumps'. That meeting was recorded.

It was at the end of that meeting, that Sami Iskander, then Chief Operating Officer, stood up and to whoever would listen as they 'fled' the cafeteria with their ears burning made the statement that BG Group, the previous year (?) had spent £200MM assuring work which later cost the company £2Bn because it was wrong.
Bogus Group: Would like to hear more on the thread of these interesting comments.
Contractors were not always on ‘equal status’, particularly when it came to safety. In the BG Group 2010 annual report, Chapman’s statement that contractor safety would be a particular focus in 2011, seemed to infer that contractor performance was the issue, however, BG Group were ultimately responsible for those at the worksites, including contractors. In 2012, his “deep regret” of the unacceptable safety performance deterioration in 2011, would appear to indicate the “particular focus” was misconceived.
Wrath: Andrew Gould, former Executive Chairman of the failed BG Group, whose motives were questionable, would be well reminded that putting contractors on equal status as company employees in order to meet 'stretch' targets is in direct conflict with the 'Constitutions' of the various 'Bodies Corporate', despite alignment through 'bridging' documents.

"as long as it doesn't blow-up on my watch, it's <>." the new SEAM organization has made it abundantly clear, that safety has to be in "balance with business drivers of production and affordability." When it eventually goes boom, it will be blamed on TSE not the folks who are sweeping the concerns under the rug. the new emperors have no clothes!
Wrath: Subsurface Technical Staff at Shell who previously worked for BG Group would be well advised to remember that reserves should not be booked on subjective technical workflows and furthermore that both the technical workflows used in calculating reserves and their results should be reproducible by the Auditors. The BG philosophy of 'it's alright as long as the oil and/or gas is flowing out of the ground and we don't know where it is coming from' is irresponsible, short sighted and to the detriment of Shell's shareholders. This attitude should be dropped pronto!

Nigeria is simply doomed with all the corruption.
Take it from me, this is a major operation to fix. So the top brass must have been involved. Half or more of the population is scratching a living in miserable circumstances, there is no more rule of law and these gangsters lay a pipeline from a terminal and steal oil.
Simply beyond what I can imagine.
TERRIBLE: They cut off my 87 year old moms phone. This isn't just a phone for people of that age its and essential lifeline.
After spending an hour on hold I eventually got through to the customer service department. They said a bill hadn't been sent because of billing issues. That's why it wasn't paid.
So, I settled the bill over the phone.
The following day the service was resumed and a demand for the money paid over the phone was sent to her house.
How incompetent are these people.
I spent another hour on hold. No reply to the call at all this time.
No response to my emailed complaint.
Obviously I now have to find another provider.
But a lot of stress for my mother.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.
They are the worst of the worst.
