Asians fail to join class action claims

According to Goal, almost $12bn in settlements, to which shareholders were entitled, was not reclaimed through class actions from 2000 to 2007. The list includes settlements against Enron, Worldcom, Parmalat and Royal Dutch Shell.

Class action giant Melvyn Weiss to serve 30 months

In August 2005 Schulman, Bershad and his partners on the East Coast firm now known as Milberg secured a $90 million settlement for investors in Shell. They had sued the company and its directors, including former chairman Sir Philip Watts, over the oil reserves scandal.

Shell defendant in $423 million settlement of water contamination class-action

The defendants in the case -- representing about 70 percent of the country's oil refiners -- agreed to make a cash payment of $423 million to water providers in a total of 17 states nationwide. Settling defendants in the case include BP Amoco, Atlantic Richfield, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, Shell, Marathon, Valero, CITGO, Sunoco, Hess, Flint Hills, El Paso Corp., Merchant Energy and Tesoro.
