Proxy adviser PIRC recommends vote against Shell’s chair, annual report

May 9 (Reuters) – Proxy adviser PIRC on Tuesday recommended Shell Plc’s (SHEL.L) investors vote against the energy company’s chair and opposed its annual report for “failing to address climate risks by setting adequate targets.

PIRC said it, instead, recommended shareholders vote in favour of a climate activist group’s proposal seeking faster emissions cuts.

Shell, on the other hand, has recommended its shareholders vote against the proposal by the Follow This activist shareholder group that asks the energy giant to align with the 2015 Paris climate deal. read more

DEER PARK, Texas (KTRK) — Any incident at a gas and oil refinery is certainly cause for concern, especially for people who live in the neighborhoods around the Shell refinery.

“This kind of stuff right here is still scary,” a man named Vance told Eyewitness News as he looked at the smoke across State Highway 225 on Friday. He was unsettled by the hot orange flames and thick black smoke rising from the Shell refinery.

“It looks like a bunch of chemicals being released into the air, and it doesn’t look safe at all,” he said.

Shell did not make anyone available Friday to answer questions from ABC13.

Shell selling stake in controversial Cambo oil field

Shell is selling its stake in the controversial Cambo oil field, it has been announced.

The project – which is west of Shetland – is the second-largest undeveloped oil and gas discovery in the UK’s North Sea.

The oil major is looking for a buyer for its 30% holding.

Cambo has been the focal point of many protests, and Shell has been rumoured for months to be looking for someone to take over its part.

The remaining 70% of the field is owned by Ithaca Energy.

Ithaca said the two companies had agreed on several possible outcomes.

Shell might sell all of its stake, but if it only manages to find a buyer for a portion of the stake it could offload its remaining share to Ithaca. read more

Oil giant Shell made nearly £1.4 billion more in profit than experts had expected in the first three months of the year, the company said today.

The business joined its rival BP in reporting expectations-beating results this week.

Shell said that its adjusted earnings had risen by 5.7% compared to the same quarter a year earlier, reaching £7.6 billion.

Like its rival BP, Shell’s results immediately sparked calls for the Government to take a tougher stance against the oil majors. read more

Shell force-fitted more than 4,000 prepayment meters in the UK last year as the international oil and gas giant made more than £32bn in profits.

The firm on Wednesday posted additional profits of almost £7.7bn in the first quarter of this year amid soaring oil and gas prices

.It was reported in February that Shell’s overall profits had soared to £32.2bn last year – the highest in the oil and gas giant’s 115-year history – as millions of Britons struggled to pay their energy bills. read more

SYDNEY, April 29 (Reuters) – BP (BP.L) has agreed to buy rival giant Shell’s (SHEL.L) 27% stake in the Browse joint venture, expanding its holding in Australia’s largest untapped gas resource in a move that could improve the development prospects for the long-stalled project.

The Browse project, estimated to cost $20.5 billion, has been stuck on the drawing board for years but is now being considered as a replacement for ageing gas fields to supply the North West Shelf LNG (liquefied natural gas) plant. read more

Apr 29, 2023 BP will acquire fellow global energy major Shell’s stake in the $30 billion Browse LNG project in Western Australia hot on the heels of Woodside Energy boss Meg O’Neill issuing a warning about the mounting regulatory hurdles and policy changes facing the project’s backers.

The deal boosts BP stake in the Browse project, led by Woodside, to 44 per cent. PetroChina and Japanese heavyweights Mitsubishi and Mitsui also have stakes in what is touted as Australia’s largest untapped conventional gas resource.

It is understood BP finalised the acquisition of the Shell stake on Friday night Perth time just hours after protesters and climate change activists targeted the Woodside annual general meeting in the city. read more

But leaving can be complex. Four days after the invasion, Shell announced it was leaving Russia and later wrote off its nearly 27.5 percent stake in the Sakhalin-2 LNG facility in the Far East at $1.6 billion. This month, an unconfirmed Russian newspaper report suddenly surfaced that Putin had given permission for the company to repatriate $1.2 billion from the sale of its stake in Russia’s Novatek. POTTER TWP. – Strong odors from a “release of hydrocarbons” at Shell’s wastewater treatment plant are permeating parts of Beaver County.

Those living, traveling and working near Shell’s ethane cracker plant in Potter Township said the “kerosene-like” scent has persisted for at least two days, causing watering, burning eyes, headaches, nausea and other respiratory issues.

“It smells like if you burned rotten potatoes but used garage chemicals to do it,” said Mary Beth Eastman, a Beaver County resident who lives less than five miles from the plant. “I had a headache all afternoon yesterday, plus nausea. I have a headache again today. My daughter has been coughing for two days. She’s 12.” read more

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -The Dutch government on Thursday said it would support oil and gas company Shell in its efforts to reduce its CO2 and nitrogen emissions in the Netherlands in the coming years.

The government said it would look at building infrastructure and accelerating permitting procedures needed for projects that would help Shell, one of the country’s largest polluters, reach its goal of cutting 3.9 megatons of CO2 emissions from its Dutch plants by 2030. read more

MOSCOW, April 12 (Reuters) – Russia’s government has approved the sale of Shell’s (SHEL.L) former 27.5% stake in the Sakhalin-2 energy project to Russian energy firm Novatek (NVTK.MM) for 94.8 billion roubles ($1.16 billion), a government order showed on Wednesday.

Vladimir Putin has approved a request by Novatek to allow Shell to receive $1.2 billion (94.8 billion rubles) from the Russian gas producer for its 27.5% stake in the Sakhalin-2 LNG project, Russian daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday, quoting sources with knowledge of the matter.

Last year, a decree from Putin stipulated that a newly set up state Russian company would take over the rights and obligations of Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., the joint venture running the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project. read more

Energy giant Shell expects boost in gas production

Energy giant Shell has said it expects to have produced more gas in the opening three months of this year than it did during the close of last year even as prices drop from recent extremes.

The oil and gas major said developments in Australia would also help it supply more liquid gas – the type transported by ship – to countries around the world.

The company’s shares rose by 1.8% after the news, while rival BP also saw a 0.6% boost.

Shell expects to have produced between 930,000 and 970,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from its integrated gas division over the three months, up from 917,000 in the last quarter of 2022.

It also expects to load ships with between seven and 7.4 million tonnes of liquid natural gas (LNG) during the quarter, an increase from 6.8 million tonnes in the previous three months. read more
