Can you imagine sneaking into a Shell shareholder meeting and presenting the companys CEO with a dead fish trophy?
Last month, my colleague at ForestEthics, Karen, did it. She looked Shells CEO Peter Voser straight in the eye and gave him a dead fish award.
Karen is working so hard to protect the Sacred Headwaters (source of the Skeena, Stikinie and Nass wild salmon rivers) because if Shell moves forward with its plans to drill there, grizzly cubs, caribou and moose calves will be decimated.
The recent rejection by a superior court justice of an appeal of an Energy Resources Conservation Board decision on Shell Canada’s application to drill in the Castle wilderness is fallacious.
Now the legal system has joined the ERCB and the provincial sustainable resource development (SRD) department in failing to block further loss of grizzly bear habitat and endangered plant communities.
The judge ruled: “The well’s opponents did not present any persuasive evidence it would endanger the bears.”

PINCHER CREEK, Alta. – A small group has blocked access to a sour gas well site in southwestern Alberta.
The province’s Energy Resources Conservation Board approved the Shell project in March and drilling was supposed to start last week in the Castle wilderness area just north of Waterton National Park.
Residents appealed the decision, saying drilling will disrupt core grizzly bear habitat.
Opponents say Shell (TSX:SHC) should wait for the Alberta Court of Appeal to rule on an appeal of the board’s approval before it starts drilling.
