4 May 2005

HALLIBURTON has secured a $24m contract from Shell Exploration ‘ Production to provide integrated drilling services in the Gulf of Mexico for two years.

The US contractor will be responsible for directional drilling and downhole measurement services for up to 40% of Shell’s requirements in the region over the next two years.

A jointly run real-time operations centre in Houston will be a key base of activities for Halliburton’s services to the Anglo-Dutch oil major.

‘The technology we will provide Shell will help them to meet their drilling challenges and maximise their reservoir delivery,’ said Brady Murphy, a vice-president with Halliburton.

ABERDEEN company Hampco has acquired ODS International of Houston in a $3.2m deal to expand its rig equipment supply market.

Hampco, which also has offices in Singapore, Nigeria, Australia and Brazil, plans to invest in ODS to raise its sales of topsides equipment and drilling mechanical handling systems.

LONDON-listed new boy Harbide intends to invest $5m in a new sales and manufacturing centre in Houston to employ up to 20 people in the next two years.

The company, which listed on the Alternative Investment Market last month, wants the new centre to be a launch pad into the North American market for its oilfield coatings.
