The project is part of a pilot program jointly funded by the KfW, the German state-owned development bank, and China’s Ministry of Finance.

Under the same program, Shell Solar won a 2.7 million euro contract in early 2004 to provide electricity to 1,300 households in 26 villages in Yunnan and Xinjiang provinces, with a total installed power of 200 kWp.
