SHELL Trading has taken two new ships into its managed fleet and has a third on its way, consisting of a small product carrier and two aframax size tankers, writes Martyn Wingrove .

Shell International Trading and Shipping Co has taken delivery of the Acavus , a 12,000 dwt oil product and chemicals carrier from the Samho yard in Korea. The ship is flagged in the Isle of Man and classed by Lloyd’s Register.

Stasco will also manage two newbuild aframax tankers ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries yard in Korea.

Both Tanea and its sister ship Torinia are 115,000 dwt product carriers also flagged in the Isle of Man and classed by DNV. Tanea was delivered on 18 May and boosts Shell’s tanker fleet to 20. Torinia will be delivered in July.

They are part of a three vessel order for Samsung with the third due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2006.

All four ships are owned by Norway’s Viken Shipping and leased to Stasco under bareboat charters.

The newbuilds will be used in Shell Trading’s global product shipping business, which transports 14m barrels of crude and oil products per day.

Stasco manages and staffs 20 crude oil and product carriers and 23 liquefied natural gas carriers.
