Ulster TV: Shell rejects Mayo pipeline claims

SATURDAY 23/07/2005 15:51:21

Shell has rejected claims that it has breached the consents it got from the Irish Department of Natural Resources to begin preparations for its controversial gas pipeline in County Mayo.

Minister Noel Dempsey had accused the company of a breach of the consents – he says he is waiting for their response before he decides what action to take.

But in a statement this afternoon, Shell says it has been meticulous in complying with all of the conditions attached to the project to date.

It has acknowledged however that some welding has taken place and that there may have been a technical breach of the consent.

The Company says there will be no more work on the onshore pipeline route until the safety review ordered by the Minister has been carried out.
