LAGOS, May 26 (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell <RDSa.L> said on Monday it had been forced to shut in some production in Nigeria after militants attacked a major oil pipeline in the Niger Delta.

“SPDC (Shell) can confirm an attack on the Nembe Creek trunkline at Awoba in the Eastern operations. An overfly this morning showed some oil had spilled into the environment and we have mobilised equipment to contain further spread of oil,” the company said in a statement.

“We have also shut in some production to stop further spill,” it said. (Reporting by Nick Tattersall)
