Shell Canada has purchased the Basell Canada facility on Lasalle Road, just south of Sarnia, the company said Wednesday.

Christina Zimmer, a spokesperson at Shell’s Corunna refinery, said the company signed an agreement to buy the Basell property and equipment, located east of the refinery.

“As part of an agreement, Shell will start running the iso-propyl-alcohol (IPA) plant there,” said Zimmer, noting Shell actually owns the plant, while Basell has operated it on the company’s behalf.

Shell will retain 33 Basell workers at the IPA plant, beginning Aug. 1.
