Fire and explosions on large oil tanker off Nigeria coast
ABUDJAN – A large oil tanker has caught fire off the coast of Nigeria, after which explosions have occurred, reports Bloomberg news agency. The ship appears to be sinking, according to images on social media. From the burning ship come great black clouds of smoke.
According to Bloomberg, it concerns the Trinity Spirit, which has a maximum capacity of 2 million barrels of oil. It is not clear how much oil is on board at the time of the fire.
It is not clear whether there have been any casualties. According to SEPCOL, which owns the ship, ten people were on board prior to the fire. The ship was built in 1976.
Nothing is known about the cause yet.
