It is fair to say that the first dozen years of the business relationship between Shell and Don Marketing was very successful for both parties. Not only in the UK but around the world. We enjoyed a mutually beneficial and trusting relationship.

In the two decades since 1993, the mutual admiration evaporated and the relationship became so acrimonious that The Times newspaper published a City Diary article in 2007 about Shell’s hostile relationship with my family.

The Donovan family, led by 90-year-old Burma veteran Alfred, perhaps quixotically want Shell to change its management. Some of the interesting people with whom we had business dealings on behalf of our sales promotion ideas company, Don Marketing.

Our first business foray into the United States was in 1979 when we met at the New York Hilton with Bertrand M. Fainberg, Director of Business Affairs at ABC Television Network.

While on that same visit to NY, we also met with NBC Entertainment President, Myron “Mike” Weinblatt (left).

My colleague Don Redhead and I made a presentation to him and the full board of NBC (with the exception of Fred Silverman) at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York.

Also present; Irwin S. Segelstein (President NBC Television) and W Watts Biggers (Buck Biggers – shown right) NBC VP Advertising & Promotions ( a famous American novelist and co-creator of the long-running animated television series Underdog. read more

Don Marketing co-founder Don Redhead

The late Donald John Redhead, known as Don Redhead. A Chartered Accountant, mathematician and co-founder with Alfred Donovan, Bob Donovan and John Donovan of the international sales promotion company Don Marketing. The photograph was taken in or around 1981.

Don can also be seen in this video clip from the BBC TV Money Programme in 1984, seeding Shell Mastermind high-value prizes into the print run of 96 million Shell branded game pieces.
