BP CEO Holds Talks With Gazprom Chairman On Strategic Alliance-BP

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- BP PLC (BP) Chief Executive Tony Hayward is meeting OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) Chairman Alexey Miller Thursday to continue discussions on a strategic alliance signed last year, a spokesman for the British oil giant said.

The talks come amid mounting speculation that a Russian state company may acquire a stake in BP’s Russian joint-venture, TNK-BP (TNBP.RS).

Thursday’s discussions are focusing on the finalization of a partnership agreement signed in June last year between Russian gas monopoly Gazprom and BP.

“It’s a routine visit, which was planned at least a month ago,” a BP spokesman in Moscow said.

A person familiar with the matter said the finalization of the divestment of TNK-BP’s stake in the Kovykta gas field wasn’t on the agenda of the meeting.

The spokesman said BP’s Hayward will discuss the 2007 agreement with Miller. He added that he will also meet Russian state oil company Rosneft (ROSN.RS) and BP’s Russian partners in TNK-BP. Both Rosneft and Gazprom are said to be interested in buying a stake in TNK-BP, though Gazprom is expected to have the upper hand if it bids.
