Protesters arrested at Shell Corrib Gas Pipeline landfall

Shell to Sea protesters, John Monaghan & Naoise O’Mongain, have been arrested at Glengad, the landfall area of the Corrib pipeline, for refusing to allow Shell to continue with the work.
The protesters are questioning the consents/authority/permission for Shell to proceed with landfall construction work at this time, claiming that the ‘new pipeline route’ still awaits planning permission.
According to the Shell to Sea Campaign, neither Shell, The Dept. Marine, National Parks & Wildlife Service, or Garda Siochana can or will say what permission exists for this work to be happening at this time.
More locals are reportedly being threatened with arrest at the cliff face landfall, but are standing their ground.
The Shell Corrib Gas Pipeline Project has been plagued by protests from the outset with the so called “Rossport 5” being jailed for over 100 days at the behest of the oil giant Shell after they objected to the potentially dangerous pipeline being laid across their land.
In an unsuccessful bid to calm an increasingly heated situation, Shell apologised to the imprisoned men for its ruthless approach to an ill fated project given the go ahead some years ago by Irish politicians tainted by corruption.
