Shell has moved its new deepwater production facility into place in the Gulf of Mexico and is in the process of securing the structure, called a spar, to the seafloor.
The Perdido spar will operate in 8,000 feet of water about 200 miles south of Freeport, Texas.
Once in place, the spar will be as tall as the Eiffel Tower and will be one of the deepest oil developments in the world.
