Vince Cable Described As ‘Minister For Shell’ In Letter From Oil Giant
A letter describing Vince Cable as the “contact minister for Shell” has raised fresh questions about the business secretary’s relationship with the oil giant. In the letter to Cable dated 19 March 2012, Malcolm Brinded, the then chief executive of Shell Upstream International, sets out how the company would like the coalition to harden its line against the European Fuel Quality Directive, a policy initiative aimed at reducing emissions from transport fuels. …

Vince Cable’s ties to Shell are rather more extensive than suggested by the various newspaper reports and Wikipedia articles.
While at London Business School in the early 1990’s, I attended a lecture given by Vince Cable on “Scenario Planning” which included many slides from his work at Shell and was given the impression that he had been working with Shell as an economist for much longer than suggested by the two years as “Chief Economist” which is widely cited.
In fact, from 1990 Vince worked for Shell International and in 1995 became Shell’s Chief Economist.
